We thank those who have taken time to join in the discussion forum on this page over the last few months.

Further consultation with the Lower Vasse River Management Advisory Group, Council and the community will take place later this year after draft detailed design plans are completed.

We recently consultated with the community on how public transport is meeting their needs. An essential part of the City’s Strategic Community Plan, which seeks to integrate a range of transport alternatives to meet the needs of our growing population, is to provide the community with smart, connective and accessible transport options.

In the past we have consulted with the community via online surveys, face to face community consultations and strategic community plan surveys. Some of the things that you have told us include; a push for regular and practical bus services - commuter business hours would be fantastic. Also late night public transport and to encourage more pedestrians, bikes and buses and less vehicles in town centres

We asked members of our community to help us locate high priority areas in our environment.

The strategy will help provide guidance and direction for the City and community in the management of environmental weeds. It will aim to ensure that the limited funding, time and resources available for environmental weed control are used in the most strategic, efficient and effective way possible by directing them towards the highest priority weeds and the protection of the highest priority ecological assets.

It is important to note two key aspects of the scope of the project:

1. It is focused on environmental weeds and the ecological impact they have and not agricultural or horticultural weeds.

2. It is focused on City reserves (although many aspects will flow through to private lands or other tenures).

At last nights Council meeting the Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy 2020-2030 was adopted as guide to the development and provision of Sport & Recreation infrastructure throughout the District.

Work has commended on the recommended priorities for 2020/21 Financial Year, with the new Dunsborough Lakes Sports Precinct (infrastructure for soccer, cricket and court sports) the first project to be undertaken.

The City’s Reconciliation Action Plan was adopted by Council on 9 October 2019 after a long journey of consultation with the local Aboriginal community. The feedback after the initial draft lead to some changes and the City staff are on board to implement this significant document. We would like to sincerely thank the community for their ideas and aspirations for the The City, we are taking small steps on this long journey and working on projects with the Undalup Association and Aboriginal community members. A presentation was made to the South West Boodjarah Working Party on 13 November 2019. The RAP has been submitted to Reconciliation Australia for endorsement and a launch is anticipated in February 2020.

King Street Coastal Parkland works commence from 15 June 2020 and include:

• Demolition of the existing ablution block
• Construction of a new, more practical public ablution
• Landscaping and civil works

The parkland upgrade is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Last month we invited feedback on City communications and engagement. We were keen to gauge community satisfaction levels, find out what you’re interested in hearing more about and how you would like to participate in future consultation initiatives.

We received 284 responses to our survey. Overall you told us that we’re providing you with interesting and balanced information in a timely manner. It was a B score card for City communication and engagement – pretty good, but with room for improvement!

The City recently sought feedback from local residents on the issue of sediments built-up in Toby Inlet. As part of the survey, 5 areas were identified as of concern to the community, with the highest impacts being listed as poor visual amenity, reduced water flow and reduced on-water recreational access. This information, alongside thorough desktop and field assessments will be used by the City to undertake a study of the sediments in Toby Inlet, which will provide more detailed information informing future decisions regarding management and/or removal of sediments from the inlet. This project is funded through the Revitalising Geographe Waterways 2 program.

Dunsborough Townscape

Consultation with local businesses and residents regarding the next stage of the Dunsborough Town Centre development (Stage 6) didn’t reveal a clear community preference for any one of the three options presented. Given this fact and the need to ensure future works tie in with ongoing Activity Centre Planning for the Dunsborough CBD, Council has decided to put these works on hold to undertake further consultation.
