    In early 2023, the City consulted on a review of the Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy (SRFS) 2020 - 2030; 1,411 participants provided feedback.

    The SRFS review is reliant on the outcomes of the Dunsborough Sport, Recreation and Community Services Planning and Investigation as well as planning for the Geographe Leisure Centre. Both of these investigations are ongoing.

    The 'Safe Active Streets Program' in an initiative of the Department of Transport to design friendlier streets, with increased opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle.

    The objective of creating a safe active street is to increase community participation in walking and cycling, by providing an inviting space along which to access the City centre, in a low road speed (30km/h) environment.

  • Busselton War Memorial

    The Busselton War Memorial is located in Victoria Square, a park bound by Albert and Pries Ave, Peel Tce and Causeway Rd.

    Since 2016, the City has been working with the Busselton RSL to relocate or build a new memorial in Rotary Park.

    At the November Ordinary Council meeting, concept designs for a new war memorial at Rotary Park were presented. Council determined that further community engagement on the designs is to take place. Consultation took place between December 2022 - late January 2023.

    In partnership with RAC and the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, the City of Busselton is undertaking a review of local speed limits to inform a trial of speed limit reductions. This review involves a comprehensive network analysis of current speed limits and data, including traffic speeds and volumes, crash statistics, and previous community requests for speed reductions and/or enforcement.

  • Kealy and Vasse Locality Boundary Adjustment

    The City of Busselton is proposing to amend the boundaries of the Kealy and Vasse locality boundaries. The proposal would move the boundary between the Kealy and Vasse localities north to Bussell Highway, a more easily recognisable feature. This proposal is in line with the Policies and Standards for Geographical Naming in Western Australia 2017.

    Across October/November 2022 the City sought submissions from directly impacted residents via a survey.

    On the 25 January 2023, the results of the consultation were presented to Council. On 16 June 2023, the City received approval from Landgate for the locality boundary change, and the change will be implemented from 1 August 2023.

    In November 2022, the City invited nearby residents to participate in consultation on the playground equipment for an upgrade to Salamanda Drive public open space (Reserve 45172).

    97% of participants voted for 'OPTION 3 - Treehouse Style Play Structure' (pictured). LD Total has now been contracted to install a multi-purpose treehouse structure between March-May 2023.

    The City of Busselton are preparing a Youth Plan and are currently consulting with local youth to inform this plan.

    Across October and November 2022, the City of Busselton conducted a survey of youth aged 10-25 years. We received 94 submissions - thank you to all who took part!

    January 2023

    The City of Busselton has prepared the abovementioned Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) and Scheme Amendment (AMD 52) for the purposes of:

    • PSP – planning for the strategic growth and development of the Dunsborough Town Centre and immediately adjoining residential area, to guide future zoning, subdivision and development.
    • AMD 52 – to enact recommendations of the PSP relating to zoning, land use and development standards for built form.

    Across August and September, the City sought public submissions for these proposals. Council adopted the PSP and AMD 52 for final approval in December 2022.

    In partnership with the Commonwealth’s Road Safety Innovation Fund grant scheme, the Share the Regional Road project aims is to measure the impact of roadside signage types in activating awareness of cyclists on rural roads.

    In September and October this year, the City ran a survey to evaluate if the signage has an impact on cyclists’ perception of safety whilst sharing the road with vehicles. and if the signage improved driver awareness of cyclists on the road.

    The survey closed on 16 October 2022.
