The 'Safe Active Streets Program' in an initiative of the Department of Transport to design friendlier streets, with increased opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle.
The objective of creating a safe active street is to increase community participation in walking and cycling, by providing an inviting space along which to access the City centre, in a low road speed (30km/h) environment.
A safe active street incorporates a range of design features that alert people to the fact that they are entering a modified road environment. Elements may include: a raised plateau, textured road markings, slow points, directional intersection closures with a cycle pass through, median islands with a stop sign, extra landscaping and on-street parking, additional pedestrian/bicycle refuge crossings, blister islands and offset intersections.
Please view the attached concept plan and take the time to participate below. Consultation closes on the 15 February 2023.
