FAQs
What is a Safe Active Street?
Safe active streets aim to increase opportunities for walking and cycling for people of all ages and abilities. They have a distinctive appearance and feature a maximum vehicle speed of 30km/h. Innovative design elements seek to create a safe and welcoming space, promoting an active transport alternative to short car trips.
Why has Harris Road been proposed for a Safe Active Street program?
Harris Road Busselton has been identified as possessing the ideal criteria for establishing a safe active street: generous road width, east-west access to the city centre, and connectivity to the existing path network.
Why is the City seeking support for this State Government initiative?
The Department of Transport is working with local governments across WA to deliver a network of pedestrian and bike-friendly routes, of which safe active streets are included.

How is the program funded?
If significant support for the concept to be applied to Harris Road is demonstrated via community consultation, a design will be developed in partnership with the community. Project co-funding of 50% would be sought from the Department of Transport via an application to the WA Regional Bike Network Grant funding.
