UPDATE:

Approved - Permanent Extension - Retail Trading Hours for the City of Busselton Local Government District

At the Council Meeting on 22 August 2018, Council agreed to progress an application to uniform retail trading hours across the municipality.

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has approved permanent extensions to the retail trading hours across the entire City of Busselton local government district, in line with the following:

Monday to Sunday from 8.00am to 9.00pm inclusive of ALL Public Holidays (including Good

Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day).

The City has received confirmation from the Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Commerce and Industrial Relations; Electoral Affairs; Asian Engagement that this permanent extension to retail trading has been approved.

This approval is timely given the upcoming holiday / tourism trading period, the decision allows for the business and visitor community to take advantage of these extended retail trading hours on an ongoing basis and the City encourages that business take up this opportunity.

Retail Trading Hours across the City of Busselton

The City of Busselton is looking to unify all general retail trading hours across the City of Busselton local government district to achieve consistency across Busselton, Vasse and Dunsborough (and any future shopping precincts that may be developed).

While small retailers across the district (those with less than 25 employees) currently enjoy unrestricted operating hours, trading hours for larger retailers (employing over 25 people) like major supermarkets are not uniform. Council seeks to ascertain whether there is general consensus among the community for consistent trading hours, particularly for these larger retailers.

The current retail trading hours for the larger retailers in Dunsborough varies in comparison to Busselton, in that Dunsborough retail trading hours include ALL Public Holidays (including Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day) whilst Busselton retail trading is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day and open from 1pm on ANZAC Day. In Vasse, the trading hours are different again.

This recommendation seeks to provide the additional trading hours on Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day for Busselton and Vasse town sites and provides for consistency across the district.

In a Council meeting held on 23rd May 2018, council elected to commence stakeholder consultation to determine the opinion of the wider community and businesses.
