The Tails of the City project is an initiative by the City of Busselton aimed at improving animal management practices through broad community participation.

Thank you to all community members who participated in our initial Tails of the City survey in August 2024. Since the closure of the survey, Officers have conducted analysis of feedback provided. With a report presented to the council (18 September 2024) setting the directional focuses for management over summer with the Council supporting the development of an animal management plan.

This feedback from last year's survey, combined with data captured during the December 2024/January 2025 summer period, will assist in the development of the City's first Animal Management Plan (AMP).

Update April 2025
Thank you to the 42 people who attended the two Tails of the City workshops this month. Participants worked with City staff to workshop key issues, objectives and priorities that will be developed into the Animal Management Plan. Staff will now prepare a draft Animal Management Plan and aim to present this to Council in June.

    Expressions of interest closed - workshops at capacity

    Thank you to everyone who submitted their expression of interest for the Tails of the City workshops. Workshop 2, to be held on 16 April, is now full. If you would like to be kept up to date with this project, please provide your name and contact details. 

    Expressions of interests are sought to join a workshop on the City's first Animal Management Plan. The City is looking for community members with a wide range of interests to balance the needs of various groups who use our public spaces. 

    Availability for both dates is desirable but not essential. 

    Workshop dates are: 

    • Tuesday 8 April 2025, 1.00pm - 4.00pm, Kaloorup Room, City of Busselton Administration Office.
    • Wednesday 16 April 2025, 1.00pm - 4.00pm, Naturaliste Community Centre, Dunsborough. 

    We want to hear from you, whether you own a pet or not, on what is most important to you about managing pets and animals in the City of Busselton.
