Design Rationale:
Jetty Adventures
Inspired by the coastal lifestyle of Busselton, this aquatic-themed playspace immerses children in a world of jetty-inspired adventure, celebrating one of the region's most iconic destinations. The central beach shack reflects the character of the historic jetty kiosk, creating a familiar landmark that invites imaginative exploration.
A handcrafted tinny, complete with an interactive steering wheel, control panel and outboard motor, encourages role play as children captain their own adventures across the calm waters of Geographe Bay, viewing the jetty from the water and trying their luck at catching fish for the day's catch.
Inclusive play opportunities are thoughtfully integrated throughout the design. A universally accessible play area provides engaging experiences for children of all abilities, including serving fish and chips at the shop counter, navigating the interactive ball maze, creating music on the penta-post chimes, or gathering beneath the shade of the main structure to connect, play and share stories. Together, these elements create a welcoming coastal destination that celebrates Busselton's unique identity while supporting imaginative, sensory-rich and social play.
On the Farm
Nestled within the picturesque farmland of the Geographe region Wakeham Park celebrates Vasse’s rich agricultural heritage through a playspace that reflects local identity and fosters community connection. Inspired by the iconic timber farm sheds of the district’s pioneering families, the central multiplay structure combines timber-look HPL panels with durable stainless steel to deliver the warmth of traditional materials with minimal maintenance.
Adventure is encouraged through the Spider Cube, offering challenging climbing experiences and elevated views across the surrounding landscape. Inclusive play is embedded throughout., with a universal spinner enabling accessible play opportunities and interactive farm animal sound totems providing sensory-rich experiences that support cognitive development, communication, and imaginative play.
A farm shop, inspired by the much-loved Vasse Farmer’s Market, encourages creative role play and intergenerational interaction. Together, these elements create a memorable destination that honours Vasse’s farming heritage, while delivering inclusive, engaging and developmentally rich play for the whole community.
