Concept Designs

Please review the two concept designs, Aussie Explorers and Fishing Adventures, for the playground upgrade at Elijah Circle Park and then provide your feedback.

Design Rationale:

Aussie Explorers

Inspired by the unique flora and fauna of the Geographe region, Aussie Explorers celebrates the natural landscapes that define the area, encouraging children to immerse themselves in the colours, textures and biodiversity of native grasslands and towering forests. The nature-inspired multiplay unit offers a range of climbing challenges, with varied climbing surfaces and angles leading to an elevated treetop lookout before an exhilarating slide returns children to the forest floor.

The Numbat Springer pays tribute to one of Western Australia's most iconic native species, inspiring imaginative play while strengthening children's connection to local wildlife. Inclusive play opportunities are thoughtfully integrated throughout the playspace, including a wheelchair-accessible seesaw, musical Bumblebee Chimes, Connect-4 game panel and interactive Frog Tile Slide panel, ensuring children of all abilities can play together.

Reflecting the region's strong connection to outdoor adventure, the Jeep 4x4 Rocker celebrates the joy of bush exploration and family camping trips. Complete with an interactive steering wheel, gear shifter and dynamic rocking motion, it encourages imaginative role play and collaborative social play. Together, these elements create a nature-based destination that fosters curiosity, inclusion and a lasting appreciation for the landscapes that make the Geographe region unique.

Fishing Adventures

Inspired by the exceptional fishing, diving and surfing opportunities of the Geographe coast, this playspace celebrates the vibrant coastal lifestyle, taking children on an imaginative journey from the shoreline to the open ocean. The Surf Shop Café forms the heart of the design, providing inclusive play opportunities with seamless access via unitary surfacing and encouraging imaginative role play, social interaction and intergenerational connection.

Drawing inspiration from the region's dramatic coastal landscapes, the Bubble Boulder Climbers reflect the rugged rock formations that line the coast, while evoking the streams of bubbles rising from the seabed that reveal the rich marine life below. The central multiplay unit caters for a broad range of ages and abilities, with supportive stair access enabling younger children to confidently reach the slide, while more challenging climbing elements provide opportunities for older children to develop strength, coordination and confidence.

Celebrating Busselton's renowned surf culture, the design encourages children to recreate the excitement of riding the waves and enjoying an active outdoor lifestyle. Musical play is integrated through the calming sounds of the Babel Drum and pentatonic tuned chimes. Constructed from durable stainless steel, these instruments are ideally suited to the coastal environment while creating sensory-rich experiences that inspire creativity, collaboration and inclusive play.
