In 2011/ 2012 the City of Busselton introduced a differential rating scheme to drive a significant events program and support destination marketing through the Marketing and Events Reference Group (MERG). The primary objective of this program was to fill gaps in the event calendar during the winter and shoulder periods and to stimulate business vibrancy through excellence in event tourism. It also aimed to encourage the community to be actively involved in local events to promote social wellbeing, as well as showcase the City’s natural and man-made attractions.

Working collaboratively with regional tourism and local business groups, this strategy has seen the City successfully claim the mantle of 'Events Capital WA'.

Since its introduction more than $4 million from the differential rating fund has been directed into events and marketing creating local jobs, generating income and expanding sporting and cultural opportunities for locals and visitors.

It is now timely that the City review its events strategy to ensure it is aligned to key strategic planning documents and the expectations of the community and local business.

We would like your feedback on a range of issues relating to event management in the City of Busselton. Do we have the right mix of events? Are we getting best value from the differential rating system? Are there opportunities to value add to our current offerings?

Please take the time to complete this quick survey which will remain open until 14 February 2019. Your views and ideas are really important.
