What is a Community Health and Wellbeing Plan?

The City's Community Health and Wellbeing Plan (also known as a Public Health Plan) is a strategic document that provides a framework and actions to improve public health and wellbeing. It has been developed to meet the public health planning requirements outlined in the Public Health Act 2016 and State Public Health Plan.

A Community Health and Wellbeing Plan is a statutory requirement of local government, and is essentially a:

    1. Health Profile

    • Background evidence which provides an analysis of the health status and health determinants of the population.
    • Provides an overview of the public health needs and risks of the community.

    2. Strategic Plan

    • Objectives and policy priorities to achieving positive public health outcomes.
    • Identifies actions in promotion, improvement and protection of public health.

Why is the City asking about a Community Health and Wellbeing Plan?

The  City of Busselton  has a role in supporting a healthy, safe and connected community in which we live, work and play.

We would like to know your perspective on personal health and wellbeing and your ideas on how we can help build a healthy and happy communitytogether.

This information will be used to finalise the City of Busselton's Community Health and Wellbeing Plan 2026-2031.

What is the State Public Health Plan?

The Public Health Act 2016 states that Local Public Health Plans must be consistent with the State Public Health Plan, where appropriate.

The State Health Plan has nine priorities:

    1. A More Active WA
    2. Health Protection for the Community
    3. Healthy Eating
    4. Improving Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing
    5. Making Smoking History
    6. Optimise Mental Health and Wellbeing
    7. Preventing Injuries and Promoting Safer Communities
    8. Reducing Harmful Alcohol Use
    9. Reduce the use of Illicit Drugs and Misuse of Pharmaceuticals

Why are we creating a Community Health and Wellbeing Plan?

On 4 June 2024, Part 5 of the Public Health Act 2016 was enacted. As part of this enactment, there is a requirement for local governments to prepare and publish their local public health plan by 4 June 2026. Local public health plans should consider the State Public Health Plan objectives and policy priorities, local health context and priorities identified by their community. The City's new Community Health and Wellbeing Plan will meet these requirements.

What will you do with my feedback?
