The Place Project

Consultation has concluded

In May this year, community members, business representatives, City staff and Councillors came together at the Place Project workshops to explore ‘place making’, what makes great places and how these are achieved. There was great information shared, ideas explored and important conversations started. The workshops resulted in a list of recommendations for both Busselton and Dunsborough.

As a result of the recommendations, a further workshop was held in Busselton in November where community members, business representatives, City staff and Councillors came together again and the conversations continued. Project ideas to activate the Busselton city centre were discussed, and attendees explored how a ‘community led’ group could make these happen. As a result, the Building Busselton Town Team was started.

Building Busselton is a community group made up of community members, business owners and the City of Busselton, working together, in line with the Town Team Movement Charter, to create events and initiatives that will engage the community and lead to a vibrant and activated Busselton city centre.

Building Busselton ran their first project on 19 December 2019, ‘Christmas in the City’ where together they encouraged city centre businesses to stay open late on a Thursday evening, crafted a community Christmas tree that was installed in Mitchell Park and lit with fairy lights, held games, activities and competitions, secured a newspaper wrap to promote the evening and encourage people to buy local in the lead up to Christmas. The City supported the project by organising a Father Christmas visit, Carols by local school and community music groups, free giftwrapping and Christmas cookies for the kids.

Building Busselton are now planning their next project, ‘Sunrise in the Park’, free morning yoga in Mitchell Park for six weeks from 5 February 2020, see the attached flyer for more details. And the group have started work towards an activation event for winter 2020, and will be sharing details as they come to hand.
