Dog Beach Exercise Areas- Council Update
Update 11/12/25- Council Outcome 10 December 2025
The Review of Dog Beach Exercise Areas was presented to Council last night (10 December 2025). Councillors resolved to defer the decision until the Ordinary Council Meeting on 25 February 2026. This deferral, scheduled after the busy summer period, ensures Councillors have adequate time to carefully consider the breadth and diversity of the over 3000 community submissions and apply the due diligence such an important decision deserves.
No changes have been made to current dog beach designations at this stage. Community members can continue to use these areas as usual under existing conditions.
Officers were not recommending any changes until the 2026/27 summer season, and this deferral means a decision can still be made prior to that period.
Rangers will continue proactive patrols at locations with seasonal or prohibited controls to monitor compliance and ensure recommendations remain aligned with on-the-ground observations.
Beach users are reminded that these areas are shared spaces. If you have concerns about responsible dog management in any public areas, please contact the City’s Rangers team (08 9781 044).
Minutes from the Council meeting will be available on the City’s website in the coming week.
