Consultation has concluded

The City of Busselton is looking at a proposal to construct a future Moon Viewing Terrace on the western embankment at Meelup Beach to enable optimum viewing. Meelup Park contains the only east facing beaches on the west coast of WA, and Meelup Beach is one of them – this offers the perfect place to watch the full moon rise over the ocean.

Establishing a moon viewing terrace has been a long-time vision of the Meelup Park Committee. This predominately community based committee is comprised of individuals with particular interest in Meelup Regional Park. They have a broad range of knowledge and expertise in the fields of natural resource management and local fauna and fauna. The need for a viewing terrace was identified in the Meelup Park Coastal Nodes Master Plan and the Meelup Regional Park Management Plan – both of which went out for community consultation several years ago.

Whilst further engagement with the Aboriginal community is necessary, the project is also intended to recognise the Aboriginal heritage of Meelup. That is not, however, the only driver of the project. The area is somewhat degraded and underutilised, and the bank in this area does require some stabilisation.

Comments from the community on the preliminary designs are invited. Click here to view these concept designs. Submissions close on Monday 11 March 2019. Information provided in your submission may form part of a Council report making it a public document.
